The construction of this weapon suggests it started life, possibly as a flintlock, that was then converted to percussion. It is equipped with a BRITISH TRADE percussion lock mechanism, which is marked JOSEPH GOLCHER on the plate. Joseph Golcher of King Street, Darlston, Staffordshire, England was a British gunsmith who worked between 1834 and 1865. It may very well have been a full stocked Musket but when converted
