turn the patient's head to the ipsilateral side (this minimizes risk of wire going up ipsilateral IJV) Place dressing on the field to absorb any back bleeding from the catheter and remove blue cap/clave/max plus, Advance wire (gold tip first) through the 20G PIV until ~50 cm or until you hear ectopy whichever comes first Remove 20G catheter over wire Use scalpel in kit to create skin nick where wire enters the skin Advance microintroducer and skin dilator over the wire and advance over the wire When the unit is hubbed remove white microintroducer off wire and dispose of Advance PICC over wire and through blue/grey skin dilator When you can no longer advance the catheter (it is tapered and you will feel resistance at ~3 cm marking on the purple PICC) break open blue tabs of skin dilator and pull them apart, every so often advancing the catheter so it does not back out Dispose of the break away pieces (blue/grey skin dilator) and advance the PICC until the marking reads 0 cm at the skin Flush both ports and lock Apply the skin protectant and stat lock that comes in the kit Secure with biopatch and tegaderm Attach to transducer for waveform analysis and to keep the line patent
